Want to get your feet tapping and mind joyful with some of the most infectious praise music around today? You can't get any more original, lively and refreshingly sincere than with the music of Wangeci Mbogo.
She is a talented Kenyan songwriter as well as an accomplished performer. Her accolades speak volumes of the talent that she is. Finalist at the American Gospel Awards (International Artist of the Year - 2004), she has proceeded to garner nominations at the 2004 Kisima Awards (Best Female Artist) as well as at the Australian National Gospel Happening Music
& Arts Festival (International artist of 2004). Her latest recording, Apewe Sifa, was recorded and released between March and July 2004.
Recorded at Next level and Hitscore Studios in Nairobi by some of Kenya 's finest producers including Chris Adwar, Robert Kamanzi, Steve Gatitu and Gideon Kimanzi, this album has proven popular from Africa to the Asia-Pacific. Hardrush Music is currently handling her international distribution, with a very positive outlook for the future.
The album's opening song Tumsifu, together with the title track Apewe Sifa were at the top of gospel radio charts across Kenya for close to four months, and received widespread airplay across Tanzania, Uganda, Malawi and South Africa for several months through late 2004. This was bolstered by the release of the Apewe Sifa video, which ended up being amongst the most requested in 2004. Earlier in the same year, her first single Yesu Jemedari was the # 1 song on African Gospel radio play lists for 3 months.
Based in Nairobi , Kenya and singing in Kiswahili, Kikuyu and English, she is a treat when performing live and a welcome respite from predicable mass-produced commercial sounds.
Not many of her contemporaries can lay claim to having stood on some of the stages she has. Apart from her native Kenya, Wangeci has traveled and performed in Tanzania, Uganda, as well as South Africa.
More recently, she had the opportunity to be the international guest act at the Yamaha Celebrity Gospel Concert in Australia 's capital, Canberra, as well as the Australian Gospel Music Awards.
Wangeci is very much motivated by her faith and a strong desire for outreach through music that transcends tribal, language, racial and international boundaries.
