True Worshippers' Biography

true worshippers kenyan gospel groupGeorge Kizito, Zenzo from Malawi, David from Uganda, and Kenyan brothers Godwin and Ozzy have an inherent, perhaps all-African desire and love to worship in truth and in spirit. Individually and collectively, they found hope in God early in life through constant prayer as they went through and overcame unique challenges.

These are young gentlemen who have grown to love God fully and who have together been expressing this love through music for the last five years as “True Worshippers” indeed.

When you sit down and watch the chemistry amongst TW as they interact and vibe, you will be shocked to find out that the team members did not know each other prior to their first meeting in the United States.
George, Zenzo, David, Godwin and Ozzy were independently experiencing great success in their music careers prior to their meeting.

They had each attained a great love for music and were able to accomplish much in their own “music ministries.” They narrate how it happened:

George Kizito, (previously the music director of the popular African Children's Choir of Uganda) was the founding member of TW. In December of 1998, George was introduced to Zenzo. A mutual love for gospel music and a soul'd out faith in God caused their relationship to quickly grow into a good friendship, and together, they both became worship leaders at All Nations Christian Center. George, a classic model of a mature, orderly yet humble gentleman had a seamless relationship with Zenzo, who is gifted with strong and dynamic leadership skills, vision, and purpose, with a ministerial and theatrical background.

While attending a revival service in Lowell, George and Zenzo were introduced to Godwin. The latter was a gifted Kenyan musician, pianist and worship leader. Like birds of a feather that flock together, these three now became great friends who almost ate, slept, sang, traveled and did a lot more together. George, Zenzo and Godwin loved and admired each other's talents and diversity in their approach to music.

Godwin introduced George and Zenzo to his lively sibling Ozzy, who landed with such great joy and enthusiasm to the group, it became almost unreal to think of how it was before Ozzy. Ozzy and Godwin, brought forth an unquenchable faith in God, an excellent sense of business, and a spirit of urgency in prayer.

Then came David, elegant, fashionable and a good dancer. The boys were not only amazed the boys with his deep brass voice, but also the breathtaking gift to play the African congas.

The five became friends, and got along well. And together, they would amalgamate their unique strengths to create an explosive music group and ministry, which is very rare:

It so happened that as Zenzo was putting the finishing touches on his solo CD, Stand Project, he invited his friends to join him in recording a song together. The musical chemistry and the sound they had created in the song, was too impressive that marked the Genesis of True Worshippers' journey.

After the release of Zenzo's CD, the team would start traveling together. Theirs was an interesting game. On some occasions, they would sing songs from Zenzo's CD and some new ones that they would write together. Most are times thattrue worshippers kenyan gospel group they went to stage with a new beat that Zenzo had just created, and they would improvise. This deep-end approach ingrained in them capacity to explore and tap into their abilities to spontaneously create music on stage. “It got so good that we could actually perform for two hours with all improvised material, and the audience would be amazed.”

For more than half a decade now, TW has traveled and ministered in Dallas, Houston, Brooklyn, New York City, Raleigh, North Carolina, Connecticut, Indiana, Virginia, New Jersey, and Delaware. They have been to various churches, high schools, festivals, and conventions. They have been totally irresistible to different American audiences. They sing with great passion and unique harmonies, presided over by great energy and dynamic dancing – a truly worthwhile ministration.

For TW, one of the best concerts has got to be “the one that honored Vietnam War Veterans in Lowell , MA . Many people turned out and had a great time.”

Another special opportunity was when we played at an AIDS Awareness Concert in New Hampshire . A definite highlight for TW was participating in the Lowell Folk Festival, the largest festival in the area. We hosted our own concert in Lowell , as a promotional event that drew in many people of various nationalities. The concert turned into a joyful celebration and left a huge impact on the audience.”

TW are a sensitive and responsible people who are consumed with a burning desire to touch people around the world with their gift of song. They are sure of their call and admit: “though we are just beginning our journey, we are blessed and highly favored by God.” TW enjoys playing at different venues and looks forward to a future of many exciting events.
