Producer R-Kay of Shammah Boy Music cites the ability to be able to play music and work well with people as a must for a good producer. "When you work well with people, you make them feel at ease and hence you are able to bring the best out of them," he says.
For him, the major problem has been lack of direction by the artistes to decide the kind of music they want to do. The producer believes that every artiste is talented in his own way but many lack an understanding of the music business. So what does he get in return? (Sighs). "In this country and continent it' s nothing other than satisfaction that you are a part of the music industry," he says.
"The incentive we get is nothing compared to the work we do". R-Kay has produced the likes of Mr Lenny, Kidum, Esther Wahome, Jemimah Thiongo, Rufftone, Henri Mutuku and the Shammah gospel group, just to name a few.
