Miriam Chemmoss is a performing artist from East Africa. Miriam's been actively writing songs and performing since 1996. However, it was not until 2004 when she moved to New York City that she took her musical aspirations to the next level. She teamed up with Miss Universe, 2004, Jennifer Hawkins and Miss Universe Ghana, Menaye Donkor; performing at benefits and events in New York aimed to create AIDS awareness and especially, the plight of the AIDS Orphans in Africa. That same year, Miriam also performed as one of the Marvalletes in the group "Marvalletes Revue", under direction of Pam Darden, an original member of the motown group, "The Marvalletes". She toured with the "Marvalletes Revue" and shared stages with legendary groups such as, " The Escorts", "Soul Generations", "Prime", and Blue Magic" amongst others. In 2005, Miriam wanted to take her musical experience closer to home. She felt the need to focus on her strongest roots and influences, African Music. She started performing with the legendary "Soukous Stars", experts at Congolese Rhumba(Zaiko).
Under direction of the legendary LOKASSA YA MBONGO, NGOUMA LOKITO, SHIKO MAWATU,(And winners of the 2004 International Reggae and World Music Awards) Miriam sang and danced with the band, touring all over the East
Coast. She has also worked with African Sensation, "BABY BLACK NDOMBE" and is featured on his album, Tour de Babel" and is a guest star on two of his videos; "Let's Dance" and " Elengi E Silite." In 2006, Miriam has teamed up with music producer, GASUZA and they are currently finishing her debut album, "LOVE IN REVERSE". The single, "Love in Reverse", was released December 2005 on Gasuza Media and is available on Miriam Chemmoss - Love In Reverse - Single. Miriam also has a background in Musical Theater. She is also experienced in Theater, Film, Radio and Television, working on Independent Movies, TV as well as Radio Hosting with Voice of America, International Broadcasting in Washington, DC. As a performer, Miriam brings a passionate, eccentric, sultry, and sensuous stage presence. Her self-expression as well as her rich cultural background is a breath of fresh air much needed in the evolving urban world music industry today!
