Maximum Melodies have indeed risen towards maximizing, not just their melodies, but also their faith and outreach ministries through music and dance.
This is one group that has literally taken the entire gospel industry by such riveting storm. Since late 2004, when they released their instant hit single, 'Mwamba,' they became a household name, and were celebrated in and out of the church.
Perhaps best known for their song Mwamba, Maximum Melodies has surpassed airplay and video play. Mwamba was produced by the man who is arguably Nairobi's fastest rising producer, Gideon Kimanzi; who is also famed for the "Same Reason Project' In it there is alongside Mwamba, other tracks like Davie's Nisaidie, Kiki's Niongoze and Holy Batallion's Upendo wa Ajabu. These all have a danceable track and catchy lyrics.
Maximum Melodies has received accolades galore from the entire Kenyan Music community, ranging from the gospel front and have gone beyond this to get to the secular scene. Their being crowned 'the Most Promising Artistes' at the 2005's Kisima Awards authenticates this fact. Besides the Kora, Maximum Melodies have had nominations for the Groove Awards and also scooped 'the Best Gospel Group' at the Kora Awards.
Andrew Young, their group leader, informed Mwafrika.com that Maximum Melodies dates back to 1997 under the umbrella of Maximum Miracle Centre, a church pastored by Pastors Pius & Mrs. Muiru who have supported and continue supporting their vision. Most of these are children from a very poor background and no one had any hope for them in future.
They have performed (sang and danced) alongside great names like Chevelle Franklyn at the Nairobi's 2005 Extreme Weekend, and Lukus Simari from the USA. Maximum Melodies have now also released an album with seven tracks. They also have made a video available on VHS, DVD & VCD. Andrew Young says that 'It is the Holy Spirit who is our helper and Ebenezer is our God; this far the Lord has brought us To God be the glory.'
