I am based in Sydney Australia where I work and am currently completing my Masters.I cater to two demographics with my music.
In Australia I am signed to Big one productions and produce hip hop with english lyrics and International hip hop influences
In Kenya(Africa) I am signed to Backstage entertainment and produce hip hop in swahili with african influences. My interest in hip hop started at an early age in primary school where I and classmates used to entertain one another by performing lyrics of established international acts. However my first serious recordings begun in Australia in 2000. This is where I met Mr.Zux and Tshazfx both respectively the CEO's of BOP and Backstage entertainment.
I initially started recording music with western hip hop influences but didnt start any of my swahili and african hip hop till I went back home to Kenya in 2003 and saw the beginning of the Kenyan music industry.
I immediately recorded three tracks in one month which all went straight to the top of the Kenyan charts. These brought me alot of satisfaction as I was relating to my people and being true to myself which is important as an artist. It also put me in a position where I can record both in English and Swahili and reach alot more people than most local artists who limit themselves to just one language. The Kenyan Music scene has different forms of music, however I was and will always be strictly hip hop. Hip hop isnt as dominant as the other forms such as kapuka, and genge and faces alot of backlash as it borrows heavily from the west. However with a more varied beat array as well as better MC skills I believe that it will eventually dominate. It is in this regard that I salute all the acts pushing this form of music such as
K-Shaka,K-South(Bamboo and Abbas), Nanoma, Ukoo fulani Mau Mau, Chiwawa, Attitude, Chizi, Edu G, Walanguzi etc and all the others around
the world such as Mr.Zux,Wawesh, STL, Jero, Shidamingi, etc that I have met on Myspace. Let's bang em over their head with this African hip hop thing! In Australia I basically did hip hop to keep me out of trouble, and it was a distraction whilst I completed my Bachelor's Degree. I did shows in various areas of Australia ,and reached the Finals of the Australia universities band comp as 'Phat Cheeba' which wasn't an easy task in Australia which has a very young and small hip hop culture. BOP has opened for various international acts such as Bone thugs and harmony, The Alkaholics, and Red and Meth. I can currently be heard on the mixtape hip hop 4 life in Aus. In Kenya, I am currently working on a new album in swahili called Karanite Forever with with backstage entertainment, in honour of my late brother Karani R.I.P big homie; featuring production from Tshazi and Virus(Backstage) and Mr.Zux with features from various artists such as Mr.Zux, Chiwawa, Bamzi, Edu-G and Abbas. I have already completed most tracks for this album and it promises to be one of the hottest Hip hop albums realesed in Kenya. The lead single and Video 2050 reached No. 2 on the East African Chart and is in heavy rotation in Kenya. I DO THIS TO HOPEFULLY SHOW THE WORLD THAT AFRICA HAS AS MUCH IF NOT MORE UNTAPPED TALENT THAN ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD,AND YOU CAN'T IGNORE US FOR TOO MUCH LONGER!!
