I started rapping after finishing High school in 1996. It took me three years however to become deeply involved in writing rap songs by fusing Kiswahili with English (popularly know in Kenya as Sheng). 1999 came to be known as the watershed for music in Kenya. Around this time is when the kapuka or Genge music emerged with the likes of Darlin P, Nameless and GidiGidiMajiMaji bursting on to the scene. This inspired me to writing my first single Ujuzi which I first performed in Baraton University soon thereafter. The good reception it got propelled me to write more songs. I recorded Ujuzi the single, at the Ogopa Deejays production house in 2002, which at that time was still a fledgling production unit but which is now the undisputed industry heavyweight when it comes to churning out hit music in Kenya as well as Uganda and Tanzania. It debuted on Capital FM, and won the hit or spin it, new song, three days in a row confirming my arrival on the music scene.
The rest they say is history...
Later that year, I recorded Katika,a dance-oriented single, which did well on the charts and remains a dancehall favourite upto today. The song is also featured on the Ogopa 2 Compilation Album Strictly for the Hanye in You released later that year. My third single, M.o.U, which was released in 2004, topped the charts and was on heavy rotation both on the radio and TV. All three tracks are instantly recognizable not only by Kenyans at home but also by the thousands all over the world.
I came to California in 2005. It is here that I hooked up DJ Slim, old high school friend and Wambo$ie the CEO, otherwise known as Indagroove entertainment, who are based in the Bay Area. Currently Im working on completing my album under the IDG record label.
In Kenya, I performed in Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, Meru, Thika and Eldoret. In the U.S, I have performed in L.A twice, Dallas and Oakland. My motto.. The skys the limit, music is life and thats what am about! The beat goes on...
