Amani is a swahili word that means peace and tranquility, the lull just before a storm.
Background
Started singing, performing and participating in church talent searches at the tender age of six.
At primary school level was composing songs and developed a keen interest in poetry to the extent of participating and winning in several national competitions.
In high school formed an accapella group called Sobriety that went further to record a single on completing school at the studio then known as audio volt.
Career
Went solo in 1999 and during the same year was introduced to music power house Ogopa Deejays by Redsan. Recorded and released 'move on' a surprise radio hit that went to become one of the first kenyan titles to top fm radio charts.
Serious business In 2000 recorded 'Tahidi' a title that was featured on the album Ogopa 1 'Kenyan Club Classics'.
In 2002 did a collaboration with Nameless on the all time smash hit 'Ninanoki' that introduced her as a big league East African artiste.
Ninanoki went on to become the one of the biggest song in East and Southern Africa for 2 consecutive years becoming a
classic in its own right.
In 2003 recorded and released 'Papi' a title that was featured in the celebrity album Ogopa 2 and was received quite well in Uganda, Tanzania and Malawi. In 2004 recorded and released 'Talk to you' a collaboration with Bigpin and Patonee. 'Talk to you' became the most requested song on radio in 2004, topping all charts and breaking the R n B boundary that had become so elusive for many Kenyan female artistes. Inspirational music with the various faces of love as a central theme. Soothing melodies that uplifts the soul and mind. Combine this with an electrifying stage performance and you have the sensational Amani.
She won the Best Female category at the 2009 MAMA MTV Music awards.
